The idea of law, reasoned in theory

Launch details, editorial appointments, and submission information will be announced when confirmed.

About the journal

Legal theory as an argument, not only a vocabulary

Acta Juris Theoretici will publish scholarship that takes jurisprudence seriously as theory, as an intellectual discipline, and as a form of practical reason.

The journal welcomes work in the tradition of general jurisprudence—the concepts of law, the nature of legal order, the structure of legal reasoning—as well as scholarship that situates law in its moral, social, and historical context. It will publish the philosophy of law, the sociology of law, the history of legal thought, comparative legal theory, and work that crosses disciplinary boundaries.

The journal is being developed as an independent, international forum. It is committed to careful editorial work, serious engagement with argument, and scholarship that is accessible to readers across jurisdictions and traditions.
